Please don’t visit my website

I can tell you now, all you’re going to find is a list of services that we render to clients, a video explaining what the internet has become and why it’s important to your business and a portfolio of the work we’ve done for various clients.

Unless you’re specifically looking for a company to help you with your (new) website design or an e-mail marketing strategy for your business, there is really not much else my website can offer you.

“Like Las Vegas casinos, websites were previously designed to centralize customers and make it difficult for them to leave.”

Believe it or not, this is true. Let me share a little secret with you.

Marketers had websites specifically developed this way for you to waste time there, click on a couple of banners and hopefully trick you into purchasing something you don’t need and don’t really want. But that has changed.

These days there are so much more for people (your customers) to do on the internet. They hang out with friends, read blogs or blog themselves, expressing their anger toward others, watching videos and pictures and so forth. In short, these people are having a great party while you’re patiently waiting at home. (your website)

Gone are the days of people using Big G to only find information. They’re looking for ways to make their lives more interesting, create opportunities and learn new things. Moreover, they are looking for ways to express themselves and broaden their lives and extend their networks previously confined to geographical boundaries.

I mean, I live in Paarl and have friends and clients from all over the world now. Most businesses here don’t even know there’s life outside of Paarl. (Just a joke)

So, if my website is rendered almost useless and I’m further encouraging people not to visit it, how the hell am I still in business?

In laymen’s terms, I put on my polka dot hat and accompany these people to the party. I dance with them, I flirt with them. I get to know them on a personal level without forcing my business down their throats. I’m being introduced to their friends.

The relationship I have with these people are more important than the odd misdirected visitation to my website. And when one of my friends are in need, I am the first person they talk to. That should be the principle of your marketing strategy.

What party am I talking about? The party that is social media.

People would rather spend their time doing what they enjoy than taking the time to visit your website. So instead of inviting them to your house (website), rather pay a visit to them.

The next time they’re wondering what you’re up to or are in need of help, you, your business or your website will be the first they choose to contact.
